As part of our Spring Festival, this fantastic film will be screened on Sunday 11 April 2010, 8.30pm. See Events page for more information.
Set in the wild passes of the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan, in the Hindu Kush mountains bordering Afghanistan. This documentary style drama explores life in Darra Adam Khel, a tribal weapon-manufacturing village. A young Pashtun boy Niaz Afridi defies his father’s expectation that he will carry on the family’s gun-making business by demanding an education. With semi-improvised performances from the ethnic Pashtuns, we are drawn into this very different and bewitching world.

Courtesy of Flickerpix, this brilliant animation is being shown as part of our 'Best of Bombay Mix Bitesize' screening. Horn OK Please follows a monotonous day in the life of an Indian taxi driver named Lucky. Lucky's goal is to earn enough rupees to buy the air-conditioned taxi of his dreams. It was directed by Joel Simon in Belfast. It is a creative collaboration between animators from India and Northern Ireland. This film is combination of stop-motion (clay) models and drawn, composited backgrounds. The whole film was shot on a Nikon D70 stills camera and post-produced in After Effects on a simple PC. Start your weekend with a 'dip in the pool!', this mesmerising film will be screened on Friday 9 April 2010, 8.30pm. See Events page for further information.
From the director of The Yes Men and American Movie – and Winner of Special Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival – The Pool is a tale of a boy’s obsession with a glittering swimming pool that changes four lives in India. This deceptively simple, deeply moving gem of film makes incisive observations about the class divide, family relations and the mysteries of the human heart.
