The 2008 DestinAsians festival launched with a sumptuous mix of South Asian film, music and performance. Beginning with a performance choreographed by Amina Khayyam, titled EshtiAgh (Longing) – set against the stunning backdrop of the 17th century Great Hall of the Queen’s House. The piece combined the splendour of Persian poetry with the haunting melodies and hypnotic rhythms of traditional Indian kathak and tarana dance. Followed by a rich selection of South Asian independent short films from around the world, including documentaries, animation, drama and comedy (plus introductions from some of the filmmakers).

BOMBAY MIX Presents ‘MONSOON WEDDING’
Sunday 13 May 2007
Cafe Crema, New Cross Road, London se14
We launched Bombay Mix in the spring of 2007 as a
response to the lack of good South Asian film screenings in
our local area. We kicked off with Mira Nair’s 2001 hit film Monsoon Wedding at Cafe Crema -- a great local venue
in New Cross. We transformed the space with colourful decorations and also provided delicious traditional Indian
food for our audience !
